A SCHOOL in Northwood Hills is hosting a nursery open day on Saturday (18).

Harlyn Primary School, in Tolcarne Drive, is inviting parents and children aged three and above to view the custom-built nursery facilities and self-contained outdoor play area.

A SCHOOL secretary has bid a fond farewell to staff and students in Northwood after almost 30 years of service.

Wendy Greenwood, 67, began working at Eastbury Farm Primary, in Bishops Avenue, in 1981. She is one of just two secretaries in the school's 50 year history.

Mrs Greenwood retired from the school, which celebrates its Golden Jubilee next year, just before half term at the end of May.

A SCHOOL in Northwood Hills has been ordered to axe 25 staff and slash pupil numbers after losing an appeal against a planning breach.

St John's School was granted permission in 2001 to build a single-storey extension for an extra classroom and assembly area with a library for the prep-school, together with a first aid room and toilet.

As part of the agreement, the Potter Street Hill school, which sits on the Green Belt, was warned it could accommodate a maximum of 350 students and 40 full time staff.

MOBILE classrooms will be installed in two schools in Hillingdon to address a shortage of places in the borough.

AN INQUEST into the sudden death of a Northwood school pupil has been delayed for expert medical reports.

The Gazette told how 14-year-old Shannon Powell, a popular student at Northwood College, in Maxwell Road, died while taking part in a running competition on January 8 this year.

A NEW headteacher has been appointed at Northwood College junior school.

Hina Thaker has taught various year groups at the school, in Maxwell Road, for 10 years.

She lives in Stanmore and has a teenager son. In her spare time she enjoys yoga, painting and relaxing with her family.

ST MARTIN'S School in Northwood has once again achieved success in a creative arts and writing competition.

The school, in Moor Park Road, was among several taking part in the annual Haileybury School Festival of Arts.

In the first three years of the contest, St Martin's was crowned the Best School for Creative and Imaginative Thinking.

CENTENARY celebrations at a Moor Park school were given the royal seal of approval, with two very special guests in attendance.

A GIANT textile wall hanging produced by students, teachers and support staff has been unveiled at a Northwood school.

Girls aged 11 - 18 at Northwood College, in Maxwell Road, worked with local artist, Simone Landsman, to create the tapestry (pictured left), showcased for the first time last Thursday, May 12.

Everyone was invited to design and make a small patchwork square which reflected the school motto, Discover, Learn, Succeed.
