horse rescuers.jpgTWO neighbours have spoken of the moment they rescued a horse from a barn blaze in Northwood Hills.

Paul Manning and Dean Huggett hauled the animal out of a stable next door to the barn at Joel Street Stables, Joel Street, on Tuesday night last week.

The huge fire, which reignited two days later, is being investigated by police.

Linda Flynn, head of English at St Martin's School, Moor Park Road, has penned My Dad's a Drag, a humorous novel for teenagers.

joel street fire crop.jpgTHE owner of a Northwood Hills stables says he felt numb when he heard his storage barn had been completely destroyed by fire.

The blaze started at the barn in Joel Street stables, next to Joel Street Farm, on Tuesday night last week.

Several horses had to be rescued from the burning building and firefighters had to smash down a wall to rescue another.

There was about 100 tonnes of straw and hay inside, and crews spent an entire day removing the bales and hosing the area down to make sure the fire did not restart.

Roy Clarridge is one of the people chosen to carry the torch along its route through Greater London. He will pick it up as it makes its way through Henley-on-Thames on July 10.

Sports England nominated him in acknowledgement of 50 years of commitment to his running club, Thames Valley Harriers. He was a key member of the club's road running teams and has supported dozens of young athletes.
