DEVOTED charity workers were rewarded for their efforts with a day of rest and relaxation in Northwood.

Volunteers for Watford Mencap, based in High Street, Rickmansworth, were invited to use the facilities at Esporta Riverside Health and Racquets Club free of charge.

The second annual Ladies in the Night Walk, in aid of Michael Sobell House hospice (MSH), kicks off at 11.30pm.

AWARD-winning ladies choir, Jubilate, will host a concert in Northwood later this month.

A Summer Serenade - Songs for a Summer Evening, will include highlights of Vivaldi's Gloria and the lyrical, witty Roald-Dahl inspired Little Red Riding Hood Songbook.

Students from Holy Trinity School Choir will also perform at the event.

The Gazette told how 14-year-old Shannon Powell, a popular student at Northwood College, in Maxwell Road, died while taking part in a running competition on January 8 this year.

Hina Thaker has taught various year groups at the school, in Maxwell Road, for 10 years.

She lives in Stanmore and has a teenager son. In her spare time she enjoys yoga, painting and relaxing with her family.

The school, in Moor Park Road, was among several taking part in the annual Haileybury School Festival of Arts.

In the first three years of the contest, St Martin's was crowned the Best School for Creative and Imaginative Thinking.

TIME is running out to nominate outstanding members of the community for a Local Hero award.

This is the final week for entries into the ninth annual competition, run jointly by the Uxbridge Gazette and Leader Series, and Uxbridge College.

The Local Hero campaign acknowledges the hard work, dedication and determination shown by people who live, work or volunteer in the London Borough of Hillingdon.

It celebrates people who have put others first, overcome adversity or made a contribution to their local community.

Mr Teahan, who is believed to live in Northwood, was found unconscious at 11.45pm in Hallowell Road with severe head injuries. He spent six months recovering in hospital.

TRAGEDY has struck the family of Nick Hurd after the Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner MP's sister-in-law was found dead in New York.

Catherine Hurd, 46, was married to Nick's brother Thomas Hurd, a United Nations diplomat and Middle East expert.

The hugely popular annual event, organised by 1st Northwood Scout Group, took place at their head quarters in Northwood Way on Saturday (21).
