HILLINGDON Police has seen the positive effects of continuing an initiative in which people were encouraged to tell officers about suspected criminal activity in their neighbourhood.

Samir Azzam.jpgA MAN who robbed a Northwood woman at knifepoint, leaving her fearing for her life, has been jailed for three years.

Samir Azzam, 22, of no fixed address, followed the woman, in her late 30s, from Queensway to outside her home in Northwood, along with another man, shortly before midnight on January 18.

After threatening her they stole a laptop, mobile phone, watch, cash and credit cards.

They then made their getaway in a white BMW.

TWO people from Northwood are among a group of six charged with human trafficking.

Shashi Kala Obhrai, 53, an optician, and Balram Kumar Obhrai, 58, described by police as a computer entrepreneur, are accused of trafficking within the UK for exploitation and threats to kill.

Shashi Obhrai also faces a further charge of ABH.

A driver who was four times over the drink driving limit has been disqualified for three years.

Martin Dunmore, 46, of Iveagh Close, Northwood, was arrested on March 2 in Pavillion Way after failing to stop at the scene of a road accident in the car park outside Wickes in South Ruislip.

Shakeel Ahmad, 39, of Astons Road, together with accomplice Syed Ahmed, 39, from Iver Heath, were key players in the huge 'missing trader' VAT fraud based around a company in Uxbridge.

POLICE are hunting for the person who threw a concrete block from a Northwood road bridge on to a Tube train passing underneath.

The block, about the size of a brick, dented the roof of a Metropolitan line carriage and forced London Underground to suspended services while the debris was cleared.

Northwood Hills Safer Neighbourhood Team was joined by officers from Harefield to carry out the operation, to check both cars and motorcycles. Two specialist motorcycle officers from the Metropolitan Police traffic unit joined them.
