Holocaust Memorial.jpgSCHOOLCHILDREN from across the borough and beyond paid their respects to Holocaust victims at an event hosted by Northwood's synagogues.

More than 30 schools signed up to take part in four days worth of Holocaust Memorial sessions

Among them were Bishop Ramsey, Douay Martyrs, Guru Nanak, Harefield Acedemy, Northwood College and St Helen's School.

The Mayors of Hillingdon and Harrow, as well as dignitaries from Hertfordshire, joined some of the children for the launch on Monday at Northwood and Pinner Liberal Synagogue (NPLS), Oaklands Gate.

They heard from Holocaust survivor Steven Frank (pictured with two of the schoolchildren) who told his family's story of persecution.

ISRAELI political and social analyst, Abbie Ben-Ari, will host a series of lectures at Northwood and Pinner Liberal Synagogue next month.

The first, to take place at 8pm on Tuesday, October 5, is entitled Jerusalem - a historical perspective up to 1948.

queensaward4.jpgMEMBERS of a support group which offers a listening ear to grieving people in Northwood were honoured by the Queen on Sunday (4).

The Northwood and Pinner Liberal Synagogue (NPLS) Bereavement Group won the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, the MBE for volunteer groups, for providing an outstanding service over the past 17 years, both within and beyond the Jewish community.

The award was presented to the group, based at the Synagogue in Oaklands Gate, Northwood, by the Queen's representative, Wing Commander Ed Partridge, Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London.
