A POLICE operation targeting dodgy vehicles on one of the main roads into Hillingdon from Hertfordshire has been hailed a success.

Operation Santa, aimed at catching motorists without insurance or with car defects, was led by the Northwood Hills Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT), together with their counterparts from Northwood, Eastcote, Harefield and Harrow.

The sting took place in Watford Road, at the junction with Elgood Avenue, Northwood Hills, between 10.30am and 3.30pm on Wednesday (15).

Five vehicles were stopped for having no insurance, of which four were seized and taken to a local pound.

The Gazette reported in January how 'gentle giant' Frazer Bradshaw (pictured) was seriously injured after trying to break up a fight outside The St James pub in Cowley.

The council runs a violin-making class as part of their adult education programme, but even though participants have all paid up, the classes are showing no sign of starting any time soon.

For nearly 40 years the classes have been based at schools in Northwood, but since last April it was clear the schools could no longer house them due to financial issues, and they have been looking for a venue since.

A 45-YEAR-OLD from Northwood will face trial after being charged with assaulting a man at Hillingdon Hospital.

Mark Adrian Meech, of Townsend Way, is said to have assaulted the man by beating him at the hospital, in Pield Heath Road, Hillingdon.

He has been remanded on unconditional bail until September 1 this year when he is scheduled to return to Uxbridge Magistrates' Court for the trial.

He has been ordered not to enter the hospital unless by prior appointment or a medical emergency while the case continues.

A NEW centre for children and teenagers in Northwood is set to be launched at the end of the month.

The Northwood Young People's Centre, which will officially open on Wednesday, July 28, has developed part of the former Northwood Youth Club, which has been in the area for more than 100 years.

The opening will be hosted by the Mayor of Hillingdon, Councillor David Yarrow, and will feature performances from local musicians and dance acts.

A special celebration event will take place on July 30 for the first 60 young people who put their name down on a list on www.young.hillingdon.gov.uk and come along to check out the new facilities.

The lucky 60 will then have their names entered into a prize draw with the chance of winning a state of the art Ipod Touch, Ipod Shuffles and shopping vouchers.
