Junction mirror suggestion is a no go
INSTALLING a large mirror was one of the suggestions put forward by neighbours who want action taken at an 'unsafe' junction.
More than 50 people living in Woodridge Way, Northwood, signed a petition which was submitted to Hillingdon Council.
It complained that visibilty at the junction with Sandy Lodge Way was very limited and many drivers had experienced near-misses.
They asked the council to consider installing the mirror at the junction, enabling motorists to get a better view to the right.
Installing a 20mph zone and speed bumps in Sandy Lodge Way were also put forward as possible solutions.
Their suggestions were discussed at a meeting on Wednesday night last week and the petitioners were told that council officers had advised a mirror would be against the rules.
A report written for the meeting said: "Although it may seem unusual that a mirror can be classified as a sign it is regarded as such by the Department of Transport as it is a 'device intended to convey information to drivers' and therefore is not permitted."
It also said that people living in Sandy Lodge Way would need to be consulted on the other suggestions.
