Police offer Northwood bike marking service

Posted by Jenny Gray on Dec 20, 11 09:23 AM in Crime

BICYCLE shops in Northwood and Ruislip are offering customers the chance to have their new purchase security marked for free.

Officers from the police Cycle Task Force and Safer Transport Command, which is funded by Transport for London, have teamed up with two bike shops in Northwood and Ruislip to offer the service.

They will also record details about the owner and the bicycle which are uploaded onto the data base of BikeRegister, an identification service which allows police and retailers to identify stolen bikes.

It then send owners instructions on how to access their personal cycle log-book

The service will be offered at Specialised Bikes, High Street, Ruislip, tomorrow (Wednesday) and at Northwood Cycles, Pinner Road, Northwood, on Thursday (22) between 9.30am and noon.

Chief Inspector Ian Vincent, of Cycle Task Force, said: "We want Londoners to enjoy cycling this Christmas so if you are out buying a bike this month, come and get it security marked and registered for free.

"We advise any cyclist to follow 'the three R's' - record the details of their bike, register them onto online property databases like www.bikeregister.com and report any theft to the police.

"These are simple steps that all cyclists should take so that if their bike is stolen they stand a good chance of being reunited with it."
