jco_nlr_MSHTV_1 WEB.jpgA HOSPICE volunteer will get his five minutes of national fame when he features in a TV show on Monday night.

Len Turner, who has helped out at Michael Sobell House in Northwood for 20 years, receives a 'heart-warmer' prize during Channel Five show Celebrity Wish List next week.

Mr Turner, 93, who was runner up in the Community Champion section of the Gazette and Uxbridge College's Local Heroes Awards this year, was nominated by staff at the hospice.

The keen gardener was given a number of plants from actor Joe Swash, who played Mickey in TV soap EastEnders. Some of these have been planted at the hospice.

Hospice business manager David Mosely said on the day of filming he had asked Mr Turner to come to the hospice for a follow-up interview with the Gazette after his runner-up Local Hero award. The ruse worked perfectly.

He said: "He was a bit shocked when it turned out to be Joe Swash. But once he had got over the surprise, he was pleased."

See Len's reaction in full on Monday night.

We'd like to hear from you.
