Moor Park 10kMORE than 800 adults and nearly 300 children pounded the race track in this year's Moor Park 10k race and junior fun runs.

It was the tenth year that runners gathered for the event, which raises money for the Linda Jackson Macmillan Centre, at Mount Vernon Hospital, Rickmansworth Road, Northwood.

It was held at Merchant Taylors School, Sandy Lodge, Northwood on Sunday (25).

Educational achievements, attendance, contributions to the community and sporting successes were rewarded at the event on Thursday (22) evening.

Guest of honour was entrepreneur Robert Stephenson, founder of music and social media programme Blastbeat, which youngsters from the school, in Potter Street, Northwood Hills, are taking part in by putting together a music act and hosting a competition.

Alison Wood, who lives at Pocklington House, Eastbury Avenue, Northwood, spoke at Northwood and Pinner Liberal Synagogue, Oaklands Gate, as part of its Desert Island Discs series.

Interweaving her life story with her passion for music, she told how, at the age of 15, she encountered an orchestra from Prague while travelling on holiday with her family in 1938.

A NEW Scouts group in Northwood has seen numbers swell in the week since it was formed.

The 2nd Northwood Scouts met for the first time on September 13, with seven members.

At least nine were expected at its meeting last night (Tuesday) and emails and telephone calls about joining have been flooding in.

The original scout group for the area closed five years ago and there have only been cubs and beavers meetings, for younger children, since.

POLICE are working on finding a replacement to Northwood's Safer Neighbourhood Team sergeant, who will retire next month.

Sgt Allan Moore took over running the Northwood team - as well as his regular Harefield beat - from Sgt Ian Stacey, who was transferred elsewhere in the borough, in June.

Sgt Moore was always due to retire from his duties in the near future but recently brought his leaving date forward, police have said.

Northwood Residents Association called for more updates from the police about who their future sergeant will be.

The hospice's annual sponsored walk was another success, with more than 100 people and some dogs taking part in the seven or twelve mile route through Northwood, Moor Park and along the Grand Union Canal.

THE WAR Memorial Trust has backed a call by Northwood residents to bring a neglected memorial hospital back to life.

Northwood and Pinner Cottage Hospital, in Pinner Road, closed in 2008 after Hillingdon Primary Care Trust declared it not fit for purpose.

A later announcement that it could wither for the next 10 years sparked outcry among residents.

The Trust said that making the necessary repairs, including asbestos removal and other vital works, were not a priority.

NORTHWOOD school is celebrating after Ofsted inspectors praised them for making rapid improvements in the last two years.

Two years ago the school, in Potter Street, Northwood, faced criticism from inspectors, who ordered it to improve certain areas of teaching and pupil behaviour.

It was also wrestling with a gloomy financial outlook.

It was praised last year for turning things around and its latest report rated it as good, with an outstanding rating for its capacity for improvement.
