Northwood teens raise cash for Wings of Hope
A GROUP of teenagers are putting their summer holidays to good use by organising a fundraising campaign for an international charity.
The students at Merchant Taylor's School, Northwood, are taking part in the Wings of Hope achievement award.
Their mission is to raise money for the charity, which funds the education of poor and orphaned children in developing countries.
The five boys are organising a charity walk, a golf tournament, a dinner and dance and regularly wash cars, set up stalls at events and hold collections in their neighbourhood.
They were inspired to join the project and set up their group Smile after learning about the conditions in which some children in Africa go to school.
Kunal Dasani, 15, from Northwood, said: "Whilst in Africa on holiday, I saw the poor conditions of the unfortunate children in the tiny huts that were schools. This inspired me to make a difference, and motivated me to help the Wings of Hope charity."
Friend Shiran Amin said: "Our team wants to make a big difference to children in India and Malawi, and we aim to put a Smile on their faces."
The boys already have experience of raising £750 for charity Cancer Research and are confident their project will be a success.
Kunal added: "It is all a lot of hard work, although we hope it will all come together to produce spectacular events for the community to enjoy, which will be very beneficial to the Wings of Hope charity."
The group hope more than 100 people will turn out for the walk, at Cassiobury Park, Watford on September 17.
The golf tournament, at Stanmore Golf Club, Gordon Avenue, Stanmore, will take place on September 2.
It will feature 18 holes, each sponsored by a different company, and will be followed by a dinner and dance in Mumbai Gardens, Stanmore.
