Northwood Hills law student reaches finals of Miss Asian Model competition

Anousha3jpgweb.jpgA LAW student from Northwood Hills is proving it is possible to have both brains and beauty after reaching the finals of a modelling contest.

Anousha Mangroo, of Winchester Road, is one of 37 hopefuls in the Miss Asian Model 2011 competition.

The winner will secure a place in the Miss England grand final in July, with the chance to represent the country in the Miss World contest.

Miss Mangroo, a student at the University of Westminster in central London, told the Gazette: "I have always had an interest in modelling but I only started in February this year, as a hobby in between my studies.

"By chance I came across the Miss Asian Model 2011 competition and applied, and I was genuinely surprised when they got back to me.

"I am amazed to have been chosen as a finalist and given the opportunity of winning the title - if that happens I will be absolutely speechless, especially as it's my first ever beauty contest."

British-born Miss Mangroo, whose parents hail from Mauritius, insists she will continue her studies whatever the outcome of the competition.

The 22-year-old beauty, who has two younger brothers, said: "I have just finished the first year of my degree and I'm really enjoying it. I will definitely finish the course and eventually I would like a career in criminal law.

"People are surprised that I have entered this but I have both brains and beauty. I have always been good at multi-tasking - I also speak several languages as well as having a passion for art.

"I have already done about 20 different modelling shoots so I am quite confident in front of the camera. I think I have the full package and I am very hopeful about winning."

A public vote for Miss Asian Model 2011 ends tomorrow (9) at noon. For more information and to vote for Anousha, visit www.missengland.info/regionals/asianmodel
