ArmedForcesDay2011web.jpgA FLAG has been raised at district council offices in Rickmansworth to honour Armed Forces Day.

Armed Forces Day, on Saturday (25), aims to raise awareness of the contribution made by people who serve and have served in Her Majesty's Armed Forces.

The event offers the opportunity to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, from current troops and service families to veterans and cadets.

The flag was raised at Three Rivers House on Monday (20) by Chairman of Three Rivers District Council (TRDC), councillor Chris Whately Smith, and chief executive, Steven Halls.

Cllr Whately Smith, said: "I would like to pay tribute to all the courageous men and women who currently serve in our armed forces - especially those who are still fighting in Afghanistan. They do a fantastic job working in extremely difficult conditions and it is right they we recognise their contribution.

"I would also like to give thanks to the tremendous social groups that veterans have formed and run in Three Rivers, such as the Royal British Legion which is very active in the district."

Ivan Gurney, of the Rickmansworth Royal British Legion, said: "It's important that we show are support to our troops and veterans.

"They have done a great service to this country and this gives us an opportunity to thank them."
