New advice guide released to help elderly stay safe in Three Rivers

A NEW Safety Advice For the Elderly (SAFE) guide is now available at local doctors, dentists and community centres, as well as online.

The SAFE guide, originally written with the help of members of the Three Rivers pensioners forum, offers helpful information including having your say on community matters, staying safe when home or out and about, and useful contact numbers.

Portfolio holder for community safety at Three Rivers District Council, Cllr Roger Seabourne, said: "Worry about crime among older people is generally higher than their real risk of being victims.

"In reality, pensioners are at a very low risk of crime - young men for example have a far greater risk of being attacked than older people.

"There are also many practical steps that you can take to reduce your and your neighbours' risks further and this guide will help with advice on bogus callers and tradesmen you can trust to internet security and preventing falls."

The SAFE guide can be found on www.threerivers.gov.uk.
