bestinshow.jpgSTONES Orchard, a historic site in Croxley Green renowned for its cherry trees, played host to a fun dog show to raise money for Harefield Dogs Trust on Saturday (25).

More than 300 people, together with about 150 four-legged friends, attended the event, organised by Croxley Green Parish Council (CGPC), which raised £500 for the re-homing centre, in Harvil Road.

Judges including David Gauke, MP for South West Hertfordshire, and parish councillor Hazel Seeley, selected the top pooches from 12 categories, including waggiest tail, best rescue dog and the hound the judges would most like to take home.

The title of fastest biscuit eater was hotly disputed, while the class of best six legs was won by Brian and his bulldog, Fred. The fancy dress competition was topped by Scottish terrier, Radley, wearing a wizard outfit, and an elegant lurcher won best in show.

Chairman of CGPC, Marion Birch, who chose the Dogs Trust as her charity of the year, said: "I knew that Croxley Green had a large community of dog owners but I was astounded by the numbers of dogs and their families that participated in this event.

"It was obvious that everyone, on two legs and four, enjoyed this fund raising dog show to help the great work of the Dog's Trust."
