CHILDREN from a Rickmansworth primary school will help to raise the roof at the Royal Albert Hall for a special gala concert.

Pupils at Rickmansworth Park JMI, in Park Road, Rickmansworth, will join more than 2,500 students from 98 schools across the county to perform alongside Hertfordshire Music Service.

Two concerts will take place on at 1.30pm and 7.15pm on Sunday, March 7, accompanied by the Hertfordshire Schools Symphony Orchestra.

Students will showcase the songs they have learned in their classroom as part of the national singing programme, Sing Up, and will include enacted songs from the playground.

James Dickinson, head of Hertfordshire Music Service, said: "Sing Up encourages primary school children to sing every day of their lives.

"Singing aids a child's musical development, develops their language, communication and maths skills and improves their confidence, behaviour and team-working."

Richard Thake, executive member for education and skills at Hertfordshire County Council, added:"The Sing Up programme in Hertfordshire has been very successful at getting singing back into the county's classrooms.

"Children, teachers and parents have fun and learn together through singing, which benefits children's educational and social development."
