A NORTHWOOD hair salon raised more than £1,000 to contribute towards a seven-year-old girl's lifesaving cancer treatment.

Earth Hair, in Pinner Road, held a special open day on Sunday, December 20, to raise money for Robyn Higgins, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of the disease, in May.

Robyn, who lived in Ruislip and formerly attended Sacred Heart Primary School, in Herlwyn Avenue, before moving to Surrey last year, needs at least £300,000 for her treatment, which is only available in America.

Salon owner Aeron Beckett, 42, said the day had been a great success: "We had a great turnout with more than 50 people, despite the awful weather, and everyone really enjoyed themselves in aid of a good cause.

"As well as hairstyling, there was tarot reading, massage, manicures, jewellery and clothes for sale and a raffle, which all proved to be very popular.

"Charity is close to all of our hearts and my auntie, Barbara Beckett, who knows a friend of the Higgins family, also raised more than £1,000 at a swimming fundraiser for Robyn.
We are just pleased to make a small contribution."

Robyn's mother, Lisa, said the family had been overwhelmed by the generosity of the community.

Mrs Higgins said: "Everyone has worked so very hard to help raise funds for Robyn. The smaller amounts are equally important in helping us to get the treatment she so desperately needs.

"We have raised around £200,000 so far and Robyn's treatment alone costs £300,000, so we are looking to raise in excess of that.

"It's not just about raising money for the treatment - we are due to fly to Philadelphia next month but if it doesn't work or she has a relapse, there is no cure and only palliative care is offered.

"We will never stop working towards finding a solution but it all costs money and we would like to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for their kindness."
