More than £16,000 raised at memorial day for former Northwood golfer
MORE than £16,000 was raised at a memorial day to celebrate the life of a former Northwood golf club member.
Clive Waugh, who was 65 when he died from oesophagus cancer two years ago, had been a member of Sandy Lodge Golf Club in Sandy Lodge Lane, for more than 15 years.
Proceeds from the event, which took place in September, went to the Iain Rennie Hospice at Home.
The charity provides specialist nursing care for patients with a terminal or life-threatening illness and has cared for 905 patients in the past year.
Mr Waugh's widow, Gina, presented a cheque to the hospice, saying: "Iain Rennie helped so much to ensure that Clive had his wish to die peacefully in his own home with his family around him.
"We were delighted that his many friends helped to raise money for this wonderful charity.
"I would also like to thank Sandy Lodge for their generosity in giving us the course for the day."
Joanne Hunt, community fundraiser for Iain Rennie, said: "We are so grateful for this fantastic donation which will help us to continue the palliative care we provide for our patients.
"I would like to thank Gina and everyone who helped to make the day such a success."
Iain Rennie nurses offer a 24-hour on-call service for anyone living with a terminal illness who wishes to be cared for in their home. This is offered free of charge by Iain Rennie Hospice at Home, to patients and families.
