10th anniversary of Northwood synagogue's Blood Donation Day
LAST Sunday (29) marked the 10th anniversary of Northwood and Pinner Liberal Synagogue's thrice-yearly Blood Donation Day.
The event, a collaboration between the synagogue, in Oaklands Gate, Northwood, and Northwood United Synagogue, in Murray Road, attracted more than 125 people, with 110 donations taken.
It is estimated that 2,500 people have given blood to the project since it started.
Rabbi Aaron Goldstein at the Northwood and Pinner Liberal Synagogue, said:
"Judaism values the preservation of life above all other commandments. This is why it is vital for the Jewish community of Northwood, regardless of which denomination they are from, to work together to this end.
"We are proud of our place in local community and in this way we can work towards the betterment of society."
Jackie Goodman, who organised the event, added: "The synagogues are always striving to take an active role in community matters, and this joint project fosters excellent cross communal relations."
The next blood donation day will take place at Northwood and Pinner Liberal Synagogue on Sunday, March 7, 2010.
