Driver who killed elderly man is found guilty of careless driving

Posted by Charlene Mitchell on Sep 24, 09 02:01 PM in Crime

A DRIVER who ran down and killed an elderly man at a busy junction has been found guilty of causing death by careless driving.

William Henry Cox, known as Bill, was on his way to the doctors when he was hit by a Mercedes crossing Eastbury Road, Northwood, just after 9am on September 15 last year.

The 87-year-old scuba diving instructor of Leaf Close, Northwood, was rushed to hospital but died later that day, just months after his wife passed away.

Yogini Amin, 42, of Sandy Lane, Northwood, was arrested and charged with causing death by careless driving.

She appeared at Isleworth Crown Court on Monday (21) for the first day of the trial after pleading not guilty at an earlier hearing, but today (24) the jury found her guilty.

She is due to be sentenced on October 23.

We'd like to hear from you.

I seem to have missed any report on the sentencing of the driver in this case.

I understand from other sources that the driver received only a public service sentence of 100 days. More significant perhaps, was the police comment that this was the first time that a driver pleading "Not guilty" to a charge of careless driving was in fact found "Guilty".

If there was a piece written on the sentencing, as a friend of the deceased for over 50 years, I would be much obliged to receive a copy by email.

Yours truly,

Hi Frank

I am the reporter that wrote the story about the sentencing of Yogini Amin.

It was posted on the main Gazette website but not on here - you can find it at:

Hope this helps.
