IMPRESSIVE demonstrations of how to tackle a Crystal Maze style challenge and capture a bandit were put on at a Royal Naval Reserve unit.

Last Wednesday (29) HMS Wildfire, in Oxhey Drive South, Northwood, opened its doors to local employers, potential recruits and councillors, including the Mayor of Hillingdon, Councillor Shirley Harper-O'Neill.

The Reservists demonstrating how to use problem solving skills and limited resources to tackle a Crystal Maze style challenge.

A ship's protection team recently back from an exercise in Cyprus also showed how to detain a rather excitable 'bandit' in their midst.

Kevin Sorrell, Saracens' outside centre, and Commander Jevan Morris, of HMS Wildfire, then presented Steve Pickston, of Help for Heroes, with a cheque for £445, taking the total the unit has raised for the charity to around £500 this year.

Guests were treated to a traditional Ceremonial Sunset, with the Guard of Honour saluting the main mast and music playing as the White Ensign was lowered to signify the end of the day.

The evening was also Commander Morris's final training night at HMS Wildfire before retiring from the Royal Naval Reserves after over 20 years service in the Submarine Operations specialisation.

HMS Wildfire is one of thirteen units around the United Kingdom supporting the training and deployment of naval reservists drawn from all walks of life.
