A FAMILY arts programme and a new music project have been awarded more than £39,000.

Arts Council England has awarded the two projects a total of £39,897 from its Grants for the arts scheme, funded by the National Lottery.

Hillingdon Council will receive £27,560 for a new music project, while Northwood Community Arts Group has been awarded £12,337 for a family arts programme.

With an ambition of continuing to put St John's United Reformed Church, in Hallowell Road, Northwood, at the centre of community arts activity in the area, the Arts Group will provide a comprehensive family arts programme.

It will be working with top arts organisations, including Albert & Friends Instant Circus and a leading professional samba group, to deliver a series of projects over the coming year. These will include the creation of an intergenerational samba group, presenting high quality children's theatre and providing circus skills sessions over the summer.

Hillingdon Council's project will focus on revitalising the borough's music scene through providing a music training programme for young people.

The project will also establish opportunities where local musical talent can be showcased at several festivals throughout the year and through the creation of a monthly music night, where young people who have participated in the programme will be invited to perform.
