Work started at Mount Vernon chemo trial centre
WORK on a new £1.43m chemotherapy trial centre at Mount Vernon Hospital has started today (Mon) with an open date expected in December this year.
Plans for the new unit, which were drawn up alongside the Cancer Treatment and Research Trust (CTRT), were approved by the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust Board in March.
Contracts were signed with the Luton-based firm, T&E Neville, on May 26 and construction work started today.
The development will see the site's existing chemotherapy facilities renovated and expanded so that patients undergoing standard treatment, as well as chemotherapy trials, will be cared for in state-of-the-art surroundings.
Money to fund the project was raised by the Trust's charity, enhance herts, through its dedicated CTRT Appeal.

This is a good news and a leap ahead in finding what works to fight cancer. Especially in current economic turmoil this would seem impossible.
I wish all the best results to the patients.
