Northwood Live at Home volunteers enjoy day of entertainment

VOLUNTEERS of a social group were entertained by their members for a day with dance displays and other performances as a way of showing their gratitude.

Northwood Live at Home Scheme hosted the day of celebrations at St John's United Reformed Church, in Hallowell Road, Northwood, on Friday (5) for 55 of its members and volunteers to celebrate Volunteers' Week.

Angela O'Malley, manager of the scheme, said: "In the morning one of our members put on a dance demonstration and our members and volunteers joined in with chair dancing (hand jive).

"After lunch one of our members who is a pianist entertained us, followed by the boys from St Martin's School choir.

"The day closed with one of our members presenting volunteers with certificates on behalf of the scheme.

"It was an enjoyable social day for volunteers and members, and a great opportunity for us to express our gratitude to our volunteers. The scheme could not continue to offer the services we provide to older people of the community without their assistance and commitment."

The scheme has also recent;y received a grant from Hillingdon Council's Leader's Initiative Fund to help start up a weekly lunch club.

The club will run for a year with a view to make it a permanent service and it will be open to all elderly people in Northwood.

It is expected to start on September 9 and will be held at St John's United Reformed Church.
